Description: this cut paper project has a lot of color, the balloons are popping out at you, Realistic, has balloons, mountains, created with cut paper and foam, colored pencils
Analysis: this pieces has texture in the mountains which help add to the realism. It also has movement with the hot air balloons floating in the sky. Also there is also unity with the repetition of the hot air balloons in the sky.
Interpretation: in this piece I was inspired by a family friend artist. She painted a few paintings of hot air balloons and I saw them and decided to draw hot air balloons for my cut paper project. To create the 3-d look I made sure to color the hot air balloons as if they were 3-d and I added foam to the back of them to make them pop out.
Judgement: I loved the idea for this project and I’m mostly happy with how it turned out but I feel like I could of added more to it to make it look more realistic and have less empty negative space. I could have added some clouds or even more mountains.

These are the projects I have done so far this year

During this observation project I have learned a lot about how to add texture and more value into my artwork. It was a lot of fun to focus on a specific thing and try different techniques of drawing it. For my observation I focused mostly on using graphite and I I decided to paint one thing. The painting failed really bad but at least I tried something new and now know it’s something I really need to work on. I do like how eye and the horse muzzle turned out though and learned a lot from that on how to make things look more realistic by adding highlights and making sure to include specific details. I really enjoyed this project and I’m happy for the most part about what I drew.

My piece is a mahi fish swimming in the water. It was made with blue green and yellow water colors. It has more of a cartoon look to it than realistic. The principals of design for this fish are movement and balance. The fish has movement due to it swimming in the water and the water behind the fish has movement also. The piece is very balanced with the fish being right in the middle of the page which also brings your eyes to it. The elements of art used were color and texture. The fish was made with water colors so it is very colorful all over. The fish has texture on its body that makes it look a little bit more realistic like a real fish. The color of this piece bring a a very energetic happy mood to people. When they see the fish since it has bright colors they can feel happy and energetic instead of maybe sad if there were dark colors. I personally fell that I did pretty good job on this piece. I have never used water color before so it was fun to try something new. Some strengths would be the texture added to the fish’s body and the overall out line of the fish. Some weaknesses were the blending of the water colors on the fish and the water drops in the background.

Rough draft

Final

5/10 Kolesa p.5 typography project
Description:
My piece is simple with some color. It has a main focus on the words sunshine and shadow. The sun and the cloud have a gradient affect on them and are not completely colored in.
Analysis:
In this piece I used contrast between the fancy font and normal simple font. Also there is balance with the sun on one side and then the clouds balancing on the other side. When someone is looking at the piece their eyes go towards the fancy font in gold first. Another principal I used was texture in the words sunshine and shadows.
Interpretation: I chose this quote from Helen Keller because it reminds us that if we look towards the happier things in life we won’t even notice the bad things that could have happened. It is a good reminder that life shouldn’t be focused on negative things but positive things. I added a sunshine and storm cloud to represent the sunshine and the shadows in life.
Judgement: I really like how this project turned out. I’m glad that I used the sunshine and cloud as examples for the quote. I also love how the words sunshine and shadows turned out and I’m glad I made them pop out. Hopefully when people see it, it will make them remember to look more towards the good things happening rather than the bad things.

Inspiring artist: Adonna khare

Open choice project- kolesa
The piece that I drew is a picture of my old dog who passed away. She was a golden retriever. In this drawing I used texture to try and make the fur look realistic. I also used contrast between the white parts of her face and the darker fur to make the different features pop. I chose to make the dog the main focus point so she is up front and center. The reason for drawing this is because I love dogs and miss my old dog a lot so by doing this it makes me happy. There is no deeper meaning other than it being a drawing of a dog to me. Personally I really love how realistic I was able to make her and my favorite part is the eyes because it brings the picture to life. Personally I feel I could have done better on the fur on the front of her chest but overall I really love how it turned out and am impressed with what I was able to create.

Visual narrative project - Kolesa

For my project I decided to do the cover of a book called milo the moose. I wanted to do a cover because its a very important part of a book that has to catch the readers attention. In this project I used value on the moose’s body to show the body of it and the different colors of the fur. I also used texture in the trees. For the book it would be about a moose and his adventures in Alaska where he could meet friends and have some challenges along the way. I personally believe I did very well on shading the moose and love how it is turning out but I still have to finish it. I think I could grow in the background because it’s not as detailed as the moose.

Human figure project- kolesa

The piece I decided to draw is a girl running. I decided to add mountains to add an element of culture instead of having her run on the street. The picture I drew is supposed to be more of a realistic photo. Some of the elements I used were contrast, movement, texture, and value. I used texture in her hair to make it look more realistic. I used movenment in her body because she is running. I also used contrast between her and the mountains. The meaning of this piece is to just relax and be free. Also to get out in the world and do things you never thought you would like going on a run in the mountains. A lot of the time people like to stay in their comfort zone but by getting out in the world we can experience things we never thought we could. I think my strengths in this piece is the girl running. I am not very good at drawing people but I think now after this project I’m more comfortable and better at it. The hardest part was the mountains because I’ve never drawn them before and it’s hard to make them look realistic and have a lot of dimensions. So if I could change something I would work a little harder on the mountains. I love how the Piece turned out and it’s proably one of my favorite ones so far.
